Cheating can surely hurt a marriage but it does not necessarily mean it will be over. A person who cheated on his spouse usually panics when caught in the act, resulting to slow recovery on how to salvage the marriage. It then ends up the wrong way.
1) Cheat No More
Stop cheating, despise it. You want to fix your marriage? Then be man enough to turn away from it. Nothing can be repaired as long as you still do the deed. How can your spouse trust you again if you yourself can't even trust yourself? Save your marriage and get it back on track. Getting caught cheating isn't necessarily the end of your marriage, but it should be the end of your cheating however. Work seriously on saving your marriage; don't let any second slip away without doing anything to restore what you had before.
2) Repent and Accept your Mistakes
Concede and say sorry. It is a fact that nobody is perfect, but it doesn't mean you are entitled to be imperfect all the time. Learn to communicate with your partner. For some, this is little too late for that but you've got nothing to lose if you do it. Who knows? There might be some things left unsaid that will turn the marriage sweeter the second time around. The bottom line here is you have to learn to accept your faults and be willing to make up for them.
3) Repair the Unknown Damages
There is a reason you cheated. Whether you understood at the time that something was either missing or wrong in your marriage when you did it you cannot avoid that elephant in the room. There is a problem and it has to be identified and fixed if there is any hope at all to save your marriage. Your marriage does not have to end because you've cheated but it is much more likely to end if you don't do some serious re-prioritizing and make a full commitment to making your marriage work.
4) Remind Yourself why You Got Married in the First Place
You probably didn't decide to take the plunge and get married on a whim. While some people do, the average person doesn't enter into the whole marriage thing likely. There is a lot of love and happiness associated with "tying the knot." It might take you a little while to remember all the reasons you decided to marry your spouse but once you do it won't be very difficult to convince yourself of all the reasons the two of you have to work things out.
