The Top 10 Things To Think About When Planning Creative Dates

by Samira Burke

Planning creative dates can be one of the most exciting, yet stressful activities in a new romantic relationship. In order to help you in your ongoing quest for new and exciting things to do, I've put together a list of 10 of the most important tips with regard to planning creative dating activities:

1. Think about something you both enjoy doing and then give it a twist. For example, if you both like going to the park then why not go on a day when a special event is taking place? Picking something you both like makes it a lot easier to get creative.

2. Although spontaneity can be very fun, make sure you plan in advance. Particularly creative dates need a bit of forward planning. You should try to work out as many details as possible, but be flexible enough to change the plans if need be. The more creative you're going to get with your plans then the more details you're probably going to need to work out; give yourself enough time.

3. Even thought it sounds obvious, failing to check your significant other's schedule is one of the worst ways to ruin a date! We are all busy these days, and schedules are always changing, so make sure you set a date that you can both make. You don't want all the time and effort you've put into making the date perfect to go to waste.

4. Have a backup plan. Unfortunately, even if you do plan ahead, things might come up. For instance, if you decide to go to a sporting event, it might end up raining. Your backup plan means you'll still have something to do in a hurry if the original plans don't work out.

5. Try to do something you've never done before, or that you've never done together. If your significant other likes something that you've never tried, try it! Or if there's something you've always wanted to do together, try something new. Sometimes trying something for the first time with someone you care about can be exciting and memorable!

6. Get ideas from friends. Sometimes it's too difficult to come up with something yourself, so enlist the help of those who know your significant other best. He or she will never even realize you that you knew, which will make the date even more of a surprise. But make sure that they still like whatever it is you're planning. For example, they might have really enjoyed video games in high school, but might not be interested in them anymore.

7. Double check things before the event. What if you think the reservation you made was for 7 pm and you get there and realize you can't be seated because you had actually made the reservation for 6 pm? Avoid these types of disappointments and headaches. After going through all the trouble to create something unique, you want to make sure things go off without a hitch. Double check times, locations, directions, etc.

8. Although you'll carefully plan your date, leave a little room for some spontaneity. Don't make your plans so rigid that it loses the fun. No matter how creative you're going to be, always make sure there's room for things to change a little.

9. Don't feel stressed. Sometimes things won't go exactly as you want them, but all this calls for is a small adjustment to your plans. The most important thing is that you both have fun, and remember that the best situations can arise out of the unexpected!

10. Look back over what you think were some of your best dates, and try to find a theme. If you can find what worked for those dates, you're already halfway there when it comes to finding a great activity for your next date. Was there a particular reason why those dates were so memorable? Perhaps it was the joy of each other's company that made them so fun.

I hope my top ten tips have helped you come up with some ideas for creative dates that you'll both enjoy. Remember, the most important thing is that you plan according to what your significant other really likes; thinking along those lines can help you to come up with some fantastic ideas!
