Traditions of Wedding Guest Favors

Have you ever been to a party in which all who are present receive gifts? If you answered no then you obviously must have never been to a wedding reception. These receptions are basically parties which are thrown in order to commemorate a couple getting married.

At every reception there are of course wedding party favors and wedding guest favors. These are little items and trinkets which are given to all who attend the party. Their purpose is to act as a form of keepsake in order to remind people of the occasion. Sometimes these can be little tins filled with wedding bell shaped mints, or even custom balloons with the bride and grooms names on them. It doesn't really matter what exactly they are, but you can guarantee that they will match both the personalities of those who were just united in holy matrimony, as well as the overall theme of their wedding.

A wedding reception is unlike any other party. At these parties, everyone leaves with a piece of the event. Traditions carry into the wedding reception, just as they do into the wedding itself. Different cultures and religions often celebrate their weddings differently from one another. Often at Jewish weddings there is the breaking of the glass by the husband and wife, in Catholic ceremonies there is the lighting of a candle. Traditions like these, tend to carry over from the wedding itself, into the after party. It is these traditions that differentiates one party from another and makes them unique.

Imagine having children one day, and passing on traditions to them that were practiced by your entire family. These traditions are what sets us apart from anyone else, and in many cases, keeps our ancestry alive. Could you imagine how proud your forefathers would be if they were present at your wedding and reception? Although traditions change throughout the years, their concepts stay the same, and for as long as I can remember it seems that one wedding reception tradition has stayed the same. That tradition is the couple's very first dance as husband and wife.

Sometimes at the reception the bride's father asks the husband if he can dance with his daughter. This dance brings back memories of when the bride was a child, as well as signifies that she is now an adult. In other words, the father dancing with his daughter at her wedding reception marks and signifies his recognition that his baby girl is now a woman.
