You can list certain attributes and characteristics that you would like your prospective roommates to have so you will be more likely to get along. You can even find roommates with similar work schedules so you will not be disturbed during the hours you are asleep. If you prefer a roommate with an alternate schedule, you will be matched with those individuals as well. What should you look for in the perfect roommate?

First, it's your roommate's gender. Many people are just as happy with a person of either gender, but don't be too quick to accept a roommate of the opposite sex. If you are a female and you decide to let a male share the expenses and the apartment they have a completely different outlook on things than you.

Some people are naturally comfortable living in large groups, while others tend to keep to themselves and resist interaction. If you already have roommates with very different personal styles, say one is very much a people person while the other is more reserved, then you've probably noticed some friction between them. Pay attention to each person in the group to understand how they will interact. Another area that may generate conflicts are interests and hobbies; if you and your roommate have completely different tastes in fun, entertainment, and food, you may find it difficult to live together peacefully.

Understand just how long each person will be living in the household. Some accommodations are designed for the short term, days or weeks; and others can run for a year. Be sure to clearly outline the agreement and put everything in writing so you will all understand the terms of the lease. Talking about these issues beforehand will ensure you a pleasant and harmonious living experience with your new roommates.
