Traditional Wedding Photography? Or Modern Wedding Photography?

by Mark Walters

Your wedding day is a magical day but, when you're caught up in the whirlwind of it, it can often be easy to forget the details that made it so great. This is one of the reasons why wedding photography is so popular; so you can remember the day in years to come. There are two types of wedding photography; traditional and modern. Traditional is a formal option that involves re-setting the camera for each shot. Modern is more free-flowing and catches the action as it happens.

It pays to make a decision between traditional and modern photography as this can affect the result you end up with. Modern photography is spontaneous, which is great for capturing action shots and moments of pure, genuine emotion. Traditional photography is more labor intensive as each shot has to be set up by the photographer, but it's great for getting a formal record of the day and, if there are any specific shots you want - like the bride and groom with their families - it's a good way to go.

Probably the main reason you invite a photographer to your wedding is so they can capture the personal moments that make the day so special and immortalize them forever. In this respect, modern photography probably trumps traditional as it is loads better at capturing moving shots. The development of cameras means that it's now possible to take photos without waiting for the subjects to hold a pose, meaning the photographer can act on the spur of the moment to capture some great, natural shots.

If you want a bit more support on your wedding day, then traditional photography might be a good idea. It's only natural, after all, to feel a bit nervous and want some guidance to help you through. Here, photographers will arrange your photo shoot, making sure to include everyone in the wedding party so you can be sure in the years to come you'll remember everyone who attended. If you're after a formal wedding album, this is a brilliant way to go.

An area where traditional and modern wedding photography are equally good is sharpness and lighting. These are what make nice photos become works of art, so they're really important. Modern photography offers you variation in sharpness and light as the photos will be taken in lots of locations and conditions. Traditional photography is great for arranging photos in an artistic manner as it can include specific conditions if you want a particular kind of portrait. Either way, you're going to look great, so just relax and enjoy your day.
